Friday, April 23, 2010 WHO IS READY FOR SOME DESTRUCTION? We finally are going to have a 'work day' at the Fossa General Store and we need some able bodies armed with tools to take down the ceiling and maybe some other cleaning. Come and take out your frustrations while ripping down the ceiling OR gently taking down tin wall panels! Fred is bringing a big ole' trailer for the demo stuff, Roger is bringing masks & Jason is bringing his infamous 'FuBar'! We are going to start at 9 am tomorrow morning (Saturday), but come when you can, even if it is only for a little while. Tools needed that may be: hammers, prybars, FuBars, saws, Sawsall, GLOVES, protective eyewear, or whatever you think may be needed. We also are doing some investigative work in the basement and will need some shovels, crowbar, etc. to see if we can hand dig the dirt floor out. Please, no little kids on Saturday... They will be able to help later on down the road. If you have any questions call me at 924.3067 and on Saturday at 270.1240 cell. Hope to see you there!!!!!! thanks, We will be holding a special meeting for a variety of reasons on Tuesday, April 20th, one of which is a Public Hearing starting at 6:30 pm (text to follow) ==== The Dexter Regional Development Corporation intends to file an application for federal assistance with the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development. We will follow the Public Hearing with a regular Farmers meeting to discuss the work that we are doing with our Architects QA13 and the progress they are making, the heating system, and the upcoming "volunteer work days" we need to get started ASAP and many other details. I want to give a shout out to a lot of GREAT businesses in the Dexter area that are giving us their expert advice on everything from heating systems, wood products, siding, flooring, environmental issues and more AND they expect nothing in return! They realize with our particular grant that things have to go out to bid and it will be up the the General Contractor to choose companies in most cases. But I would like to thank them for their advice on quality, pricing and practicality in the commercial space are Steve Wintle on environmental and heating systems, Louis at Dexter Lumber, Matt Scott of Dave's World, the AE Robinson guys, Jay Bradley, George McCourt, Tillson True Value, John Higgins at Yoder Lumber, Kris Kowel and so many more. Many have offered FREE services or "at cost" because they believe in our project!!! I think I can speak for Roger Brawn and myself, we are learning a lot about a lot of things in a short few months and in many meetings. AND we appreciate all those people and more for their time in providing us with knowledge. I also have been working with Insurance Companies (4 in total) to get Builders Risk Insurance & Liability. (How confusing it is!) Roger and I are meeting with some this coming week. I need help on this one... who know insurance could be so confusing and so expensive!!! The Environmental Abatements (the asbestos pipes in the basement & the lead paint in the ceiling tile) have been completed. We also had to have the water & power turned on. I hope you can come to the meeting this coming Tuesday & we will get you all caught up on the news and set up a few work days at the Fossa General Store. These need to be done before the General Contractor starts. The RFP for the GC will be going out, I expect, in the next few weeks. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call.... and hope to see you soon... Ken & Paula, Jason, David and I met with local resident Steve Wintle, the "environmental guy" at the store last Tuesday. Steve is going to do all the testing and such.. per CDBG requirements, soon. We will then be having a "volunteer" day BEFORE putting the RFP out to bid. Steve will let us know what we can do, or not, and be safe and within the law. Good to have him on our team. We met last week with Ken and Paula our architects and went up and looked at the 10 burner Garland Stove and the double slate sink. They are working on the design and as well as the environmental issues that we have to go through for the building. There are some cupboards and an incredible island that some members were eying on the 4th floor. I was please to see that Paula has incorporated the slate sink as a focal point in the preliminary design at the store! Sue and I are putting together a workshop for you in the very near future on kitchens, licensing, food safety, etc. We hope to give you more info on that tonight. What works best for you? Nights or a Saturday? We were think a Saturday from 10 to 2 with lunch and a variety of presenters. Is that something that would be beneficial to you? I have included in this email a grant that was sent to me, just in case anyone might have a use for it. The deadline is March 12th. The tunnel greenhouse grant is ending soon and only 20 (?) applicants will be accepted. Talk with Tessa for more details. http://www.heartofmaine.org/ On another note: I have a person who is interested in fresh veggies, such as cukes this winter. She has a business that is canning and making other food stuffs that sells at Bobs Hardware and a couple places in Greenville. Anyone have that kind of stuff? Call me and I will hook you up. I know it is cold out there, so let me know if you are coming or if not, feel free to call with any questions or thoughts. Tuesday, February 02, 2010 Although they are a Co-op, they don't necessarily do what we are doing with carrying only local products. I came away with new ideas after talking with the head cook (?). Will talk about it more tonight... I have uploaded the pictures for you to see. |
