Nineteen year old Kayla Wass of Hampden began her love of country music at a very young age. Listening to Tammy & George, Loretta & Conway, Emmy Lou, Merle and many more great artists, was an every day occurrence in her home. She loved to perform for her family, imitating the artist's newest releases. Kayla was a member of various choral groups throughout her middle and high school years, including Chamber Singers, Show Choir, Voices Unlimited and Madrigals, and participated in several Cabarets and Talent shows. Her senior performance of “Arms of the Angel” brought many tears to the audience's eyes and a very lengthy standing ovation. She performed in the stage show of “Sister Act/Sister Act Two: Back in the Habit” at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Kayla also sang the National Anthem at many high school sporting events including tournament games, at the University of Maine softball games, and at the Senior Little League World Series.
In the summer of 2005, Kayla performed a couple of songs on the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville with the house band. From there, her love of singing grew even stronger. She was a regular performer at Baldacci's Restaurant in Bangor, appeared on the Musicians of Maine TV show, was a member of The Mainely Country Band, and sang at Rockin' Ron's Jam Sessions on Sunday afternoons, where she was known as “the little girl with the big voice”. Kayla now has her own band, The Kayla Wass Band, and plays throughout the state of Maine. She also performs with The Danny Harper Show. Danny has said, “With over 40 years in the Country Music business, I have yet to hear a Maine Female vocalist of Kayla's equal. Unquestionably a Super Star in the making!” In the short time she has been performing, she has won several awards including, the 2006 Pine Tree State CMA Jr. Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year – Traditional & Modern; first place in the local 2006 Maine Colgate Country Showdown; 2006 Down East CMA Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year – Traditional and Gospel Female Vocalist – Traditional, age category 17 – 20; 2006 Northeast Invitational Country Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year – Traditional, age category 17 – 20; and 2007 Pine Tree State CMA Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year – Traditional.
