2009 - FRIDAY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • Wild West Weekend Business Decorating Contest
  • 7:30 am - while supplies last Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union - Free children cowboy hats to the first 200 little buckaroos.
  • 8:30 am - while supplies last - Skowhegan Savings Bank are giving away Bandanas to the first 100 kids
  • Dexter Regional Development Corporation: 50/50 Raffle, Plant Sale (fundraiser; plants provided by Snap of the Dragon) and Information and activity maps (in front of Town Office)
  • Info about Fossa's General Store & Dexter Creamery & Community Farmers Project at the DRDC table (Q & A)
  • Geoge E. Howard Insurance aka "Mac's Corral" goodies and drinks on Lower Main Street Office
  • Our Lady of the Snows Parish Yard Sale and Silent Auction at St Anne's Church, 60 Free Street, Dexter, Friday and Saturday (July 31, Aug 1) 9am to 3pm.
  • 10 am - 2 pm - Town of Dexter Silent Auction in Council Chambers
  • 10 am - 2 pm - Country Jim's Wild West Jamboree will be performing in Wayside Park.
  • 10 am - Dexter Health Care Ride-In: All horse and riders, wagons, etc are welcome to join the wagon train. We will meet across from Tillson's Parking Lot on Grove Street at 9:30 am (right by the Police Station) and ride to Dexter Health Care where we "show off" to all the residents inside and out at 10 am.
  • Bangor Saving Bank: handing out water
  • 9 am - 9 pm - Dexter Historical Society & Museum
  • Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce: information table (Friday 9am – 2pm)
  • Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis giant "Silent Auction" (in front of Tillson True Value) (Friday 11 to 2)
  • 11 am - 2 pm - Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union Rootin' Tootin' Hot Dog Barbeque at the Dexter office
  • 1 pm - Varney Agencys Wild West Kiddie Parade & Horse Riders on Main Street Event
  • Rodeo & Games: Open ages 3 to 9 hosted by Dragon's Den (After the Kiddie Parade)
    Sponsored by Toot's Deli & Spring Street Greenhouse
    • PIG ROPING ages 6-8
      Each contestant will ride a stick horse to the pig in the arena and lasso the pig. The fastest time wins.
    • BULL RIDING ages 3-5 yrs
      Each contestant will ride a stick horse/bull from the bullpen. Contestant shall have 10 seconds to imitate the best bronco bull possible, using the stick horse/bull.
    • MUSICAL PARTNER BALES ages 5-10 mixed
      A team of 2 contestants shall hold hands and move around the bales when the music plays. When the music stops, the team must sit together on a bale. Last team left on a bale, wins!
    • HORSESHOE TOSS ELIMINATION ages 6-9 yrs & 10-12 yrs
      Each contestant shall have 3 chances to ring a horseshoe.  A ringer allows the contestants to move on to the next stage. Last contestant wins!

2009 - SATURDAY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • 6:30 - 8:30 am - Hungry Cowpoke's Breakfast at Ripley United Methodist Church and Price is BY DONATION
  • Dexter Regional Development Corporation: 50/50 Raffle, Plant Sale (fundraiser; plants provided by Snap of the Dragon)and Information and activity maps (in front of Town Office)
  • 9 AM - BARREL RACING ages 3-5 yrs & 6-9 yrs at Wayside Park
    Each contestant will ride a stick horse around three barrels within a set course.  The fastest time wins.
  • Our Lady of the Snows Parish Yard Sale and Silent Auction at St Anne's Church, 60 Free Street, Dexter, Friday and Saturday (July 31, Aug 1) 9am to 3pm.
  • Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church: Jail and Bail on Main St. throughout the day
  • DRHS Operation Graduation 2010: 9 to 1 in front of Hair Attractions by Vickie then at P&L from 2-4:00 (Saturday only)
  • Dexter Lakes Association: Informational Booth and Raffle (Saturday only)
  • Dexter Grange 155 & Dexter Boy Scouts: Selling Dough Boys on Grove Street (Saturday only)
  • 10 - 11:30 pm - Wild West "Olympics" hosted by New Hope Baptist Church
    Chia Apartments will be the scene for lots of adult and kids games hosted by Pastor Will and Judy Walters.

    • Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest sponsored by New Hope Baptist Church

  • 11 am - Tillson's True Value Dexter "SHOE TOSS" Contest
  • 11 am to 1 pm - Treasure Hunt: A $100 Reward for Finding & Returning the "Lost Item" Sponsored by Brawn Real Estate
  • High Noon - Dexter Fire Department Rubber Ducky Race
  • 1:30 pm - 3rd Annual Adult Wheel Barrow Race (ages 16 and up): $50 Cash Prize - sponsored by Country Charm -
  • 1 pm - 4 pm - Bingo at the Legion Hall on Grove Street
  • 2 pm - The 2009 Pig Scramble at P & L Market, on Route 7 - Largest Pig Scramble in the State of Maine
  • 4 pm - 8 pm - 3rd Annual Maine Chicken BBQ in Municipal Parking Lot sponsored by DRHS Field Hockey Boosters
  • 5 pm - Chicken Pie Supper at American Legion Hall sponsored by Christian Community Church
  • 5 pm to 9 pm - "Wild West Ride In" by the Dusters Antique cars & Ray Stafford Concert
    If you have an antique car and would like to join the Dusters Car Club, we line up at Skowhegan Savings at 4:00 and leave at 4:30 for the parking lot.

  • The Annual Dexter Firemen's Auction will take place Thursday, August 6th through Saturday, August 8th. The auction will wrap up Dexter's Wild West Celebration from 6 to 9 pm on Thursday and Friday and from 6:00 pm to sell-out on Saturday. The auction is held at the parking lot of the Watering Hole on Water Street in Dexter.
    There will be many new items from local stores, TVs, tables, lamps, sporting equipment, bicycles, appliances, hundreds of other items. Also a 50/50 Raffle nightly.
    To arrange pick up of your auction donations, 924-3961, 270-1776, 270-2375 or 924-7906.
  • The Dexter Fire Department will be serving food at the auction all three evenings.
